As a general orthopaedic physician assistant, I am able to treat and consult on a wide variety of conditions. This includes, but is not limited to, bone, muscle or sport injuries in kids all the way to arthritis and joint issues in adults. As someone who enjoys working out, hiking and was a former college athlete, I am no stranger to broken bones and injuries. I was lucky to be helped by some amazing doctors, physician assistants, and physical therapists in the past, which has allowed me to stay active, play the sports I love and pass on the great medical treatment I’ve been given. I strive to get everyone back to doing what they enjoy.
I treat patients with hip and knee pain with a focus on adult reconstruction. I perform hip and knee replacements- including the management of revision surgery, arthroscopy, joint infections, and fractures. My goal is to get my patients back to an active lifestyle without the pain and disability which keeps them from living their best life.
MD, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine Florida International University, 2017
My Research Interests
My research interests include: hip/knee replacement outcome studies; robotics and computer assisted surgery; and pre-operative workflow optimizations aimed at improving cost savings for patients and healthcare systems.
I am a non-surgical orthopaedic and sports medicine specialist who combined a core training of family medicine with a specialty training of musculoskeletal medicine to have the ability to treat medical issues and orthopaedic injuries caused from sports and exercise. I treat a wide variety of conditions throughout the body related to the muscles, bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. I also specialize in non-surgical care, which offers conservative treatments to try to avoid surgery, if possible. I often use ultrasound to help show patients what is bothering them at the time of their visit. I also use ultrasound to guide injections to improve symptoms. I work with my patients towards a shared decision for treatment that aligns with their goals. Finally, I want to help my patients develop a lifestyle of wellness. Exercise is medicine and injury prevention is the key to body longevity.

I am an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. Most of my patients are active and are unable to participate in the activities they enjoy. I treat patients of all ages with shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle pain. This includes young athletes with ACL injuries, shoulder dislocations, or hip impingement; middle-aged patients with rotator cuff tears or meniscus injuries; and older patients with shoulder arthritis. I also treat patients with a variety of fractures. My goal is to ensure that each patient has an excellent experience throughout their care. My treatment philosophy involves truly listening to each patient and understanding their goals for care. This allows us to make a joint decision regarding the best treatment, whether that involves surgery or non-surgical options. I spend most of my free time with my wife and daughter. I enjoy playing a variety of sports, staying active, and traveling.

I am a general orthopedic surgeon with a specialty interest in Sports Medicine working at Kernodle. I enjoy and am experienced in treating all aspects of sports-related injuries to the shoulder and upper extremity, the hip, and the knee and lower extremity. I also perform adult reconstructive procedures such as, knee, and shoulder replacements, and treat many fractures and other trauma-related injuries. Born in Albany, New York, I was raised in the Northeast, attending Williams College before obtaining my medical degree at the University of Rochester. I received my orthopedic training at Duke University where my wife and I fell in love with North Carolina. We moved back to the Northeast, however, to be closer to my parents. Recently, my wife and I returned to my “orthopedic roots” here in central North Carolina and couldn’t be happier.

I love working with my hands. Whether it’s stroking the long soft ears of my Basset hound or digging in the rich Carolina soil, I am always amazed at the way our hands let us experience the miracles of life. When someone can’t walk without help or even do simple things like gardening, my hands help me to make a difference. But holding a patient’s hand to provide assurance is just as important as what I do in surgery. I want to help relieve the pain of arthritis or injury and allow people to regain their joy of living!
I am blessed with wonderful patients, a great staff of nurses and therapists, and a talented surgical team. I am inspired by the work that we do together as a team to make a difference for our patients.
